The Hawaii state motto is Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ʻĀina i ka Pono meaning “The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness” or “right-doing.”  Author Rosa Say adds that pono is balance, steadiness and “The feeling of contentment when all is good and right.”
